I would like to introduce myself – I am Ged Wright your local Labour candidate standing for election as a councillor for Birkdale Ward in the Sefton Council elections in May this year.
I am a parent of two children who attend a local primary school where I am a school Governor. As you will have seen in the recent Budget, parent governors may soon be forced to give that role up as Academy status is forced on schools by the Conservative Government. It is one of many issues that concern me locally, as well as nationally.
I am also vice chair of Friends of Bedford Park. I am working to help make the park a more suitable place for our children to play and to reduce the levels of vandalism it has been seeing.
I've lived in Southport for 14 years and professionally I am responsible for pricing large civil engineering infrastructure projects. I am the Southport constituency vice chair and a member of the GMB Trade Union.
As a Labour councillor I will be in a strong position to work constructively with the controlling party on the council and argue for the best deal for Birkdale.
If you have ever voted Liberal Democrat because you feel a vote for Labour is wasted, I can assure you this is no longer the case. During the last election Labour’s vote share doubled. We only need 7 voters in every 100 to switch to Labour in Birkdale for us to win.
Labour in Southport has had a massive increase in membership in the last year with hundreds of new supporters joining us. Our aim is to win, so that we can fight for our community.
