Liz Savage - Labour Parliamentary Candidate For Southport
I’m Liz Savage, your Labour Parliamentary Candidate. I was born in Liverpool, grew up in Ormskirk and now live in Tarleton, so Southport has always been an integral part of my life.
We need to act NOW to make sure that the nationwide decline in seaside towns doesn’t affect Southport to the extent that it has in Blackpool. The best way to ensure this is for Southport to elect a Labour Member of Parliament whose voice will be effectively heard both nationally and who can work alongside and with Sefton Council to ensure the best outcome for Southport residents.
This year’s election in Southport will be a very close race. Many people, including a sizeable percentage who actually preferred Labour, voted tactically in the last election by supporting the Liberal Democrats to keep the Conservatives out. We all know what happened and our current MP even voted in favour of the despicable and unfair ‘Bedroom Tax’.
Only the Labour Party really cares about ordinary working people. We believe in fairness for all, after all it wasn’t immigrants or people on benefits who caused the world economic meltdown. Rather, it was greedy, corrupt bankers, financiers and speculators who gambled with our money, lost it all, yet still expect their bonuses. By the way, the leader of UKIP is an ex-Public School financier, so don’t be mislead by his homespun untruths and anti-immigrant propaganda.
My Dad was a hard working sheet metal worker and my Mum had numerous jobs within the catering industry. I was born in Liverpool in 1973 and educated locally in Ormskirk. I went on to study International Relations at the University of Bradford where I gained a degree in Peace Studies.
In 1996 I became a Councillor in Hertfordshire where I had moved following university to find work, during this time I worked in administration for a Life Assurance Company including intensive call centre work. After my children were born, I set up my own business selling educational books, which led to me decide that I wanted to be a teacher. In 2007, I passed the Graduate Teacher Programme at the University of Hertfordshire and became a teacher. I currently work as a supply teacher.
The Labour Party seek to establish a FAIR and JUST society for all, not just the privileged few and amongst the measures we will introduce are:-
- Ensuring an excellent, non-privatised, National Health Service
- Scrapping the despicable Bedroom Tax
- Supporting working people in maintaining their standard of living
- Making sure that those people and companies who can well afford to do so, pay their dues to the society that they too often take advantage of.
Please help Labour to help all of us by voting for me in May.
