Steve Rotheram officially opens Southport Labour election office
Prominent MP Steve Rotheram was in Southport to officially open Southport Labour's campaign office on Eastbourne Road. Steve is best known nationally for playing a key role in persuading the government to release all papers relating to the Hillsborough disaster.
Members and supporters turned out to greet Steve who opened the office before joining activists in talking to local voters.
Steve said "It's great to be back in Southport and to open Liz Savage’s office.
“I know that Liz is a determined campaigner whose working background means she will stick up for working people when she's elected in 41 days time.
“In the coming weeks Liz will continue to hold Southport's Lib Dem MP and his government to account for the cost of living crisis they have created and for their plans to make a further £7billion worth of cuts to our NHS.
“We know this will be a really close election and Southport is no exception. The people here have the opportunity to make real change happen on May 7th. I hope they will support Liz so she can play her part in the next Labour government that will make Southport an even better place to visit, live, work and to raise a family”.
Liz savage commented " The office is open 11am to 4pm 6 days a week. People are welcome to drop by and talk about national and local issues. Don't forget we're also using the office as a foodbank collection point.
We want to thank Steve for taking the time to come here today. Opening this office shows how seriously we are taking the campaign. Labour can win in Southport."
