Our Birkdale candidate Ged Wright
Our Birkdale candidate Ged Wright

My name is Ged Wright and I’m honoured to stand as your Labour candidate in Birkdale for the council elections on May 4th.

My family and I have lived at the heart of our community in Birkdale for the last 20 years and my children attend local schools. Birkdale is my home and I want it to thrive.

I am a parent governor at Birkdale High School, having also previously served at Birkdale Primary, and am actively involved with the Friends of Bedford Park. I am 100% committed to improving this great area of ours.

For far too long Birkdale’s Liberal Democrat Councillors have taken support here for granted and done very little to repay it or to oppose the Conservatives. Nearly two years ago though, you elected Sonya Kelly as Birkdale’s first-ever Labour Sefton councillor.

Since then Sonya has been tirelessly working in our community, helping residents with local issues, and strongly representing the ward on Sefton Council. Our residents deserve the hard work and dedication Sonya shows, and I’d like to double that for Birkdale.

We’d work as a strong local team towards a better Birkdale, achieving even more for you and our community but we can’t do that unless you use your vote for Labour on May 4th.

Over the last few years, you may have seen me out on doorsteps listening to residents’ concerns. These are just some of the issues that I want to work on:

  • Improving our local parks and open spaces, including Bedford and Compton Parks.
  • Dog mess – let’s try and get more bins, educate people and enforce local by-laws.
  • Improved parking in Birkdale Village and near local schools, as well as tackling inconsiderate parking.
  • Supporting our fantastic local shops and small businesses – Labour’s plan to reform and reduce business rates looks like an excellent idea to me.
  • Improving safety on our roads and at level crossings.
  • Assist local residents struggling with the Conservative Cost of living crisis.

I can be contacted at ged4birkdale@gmail.com if you wish to raise any local concerns.
